31st Oct - Victor Hugo arrives in Guernsey with Juliette Drouet and Francois-Victor - moved into L'Hotel de L'Europe

2nd Nov - Arrival of Hugo' son, Charles

9th Nov - Arrival of Madame Hugo, Adele and Auguste Vacquerie, brother of Leopoldine's husband Charles - moved into 20 Rue de Hauteville

1856

23rd April - Les Contemplations (The Contemplations)

16th May - Purchase of 38, Hautville (Now known as Hautville House)

1857

14th May - opening of the dining room

19th Dec - Juliette Drouet is installed in La Fallue (Now part of The Pandora Hotel)

1859

4th - 6th April - Alexandre Dumas visits Hautville House

26th May - 10th June - Excursion to Sark with Juliette Drouet, Charles and friends

26th Sept - La Légende des siècles (The Legend of the Ages - First Series)

2nd Dec - appeal in favour of John Brown

1860

14th - 19th June - support meeting in favour of Garibaldi, in Jersey

16th Jan - Victor Hugo allows his beard to grow

25th March - 3rd Sept - Continental holiday with Juliette Drouet (a similar holiday took place every summer from now on)
