Hauteville Fairy

Number 20, also known as Hautville Fairy, is where Hugo first lived in Guernsey and where Hugo’s lover Juliette Drouet subsequently lived.

The couple would communicate by tying coloured hankies to the railings outside their homes with different colours signalling different moods and messages.

Hauteville Fairy no longer exists as it was, but the dismantled dining room has been completely reconstructed and can be seen at the Maison Victor Hugo in Paris, Place des Vosges
