It is reported that The Pandora Hotel  was created from a cluster of houses in the 70s or 80s and included one of the homes - La Fallue - that Juliette Drouet, Victor Hugo's mistress, stayed following a few weeks at The Crown Hotel.

The hotel is situated next door to Hautville House and in November 1856 she wrote to her "beloved Victor: Here I am at last your neighbour."

It is said that every morning the writer would signal from his third-floor office and bedroom, which he called “the lookout” to Juliette by tying a white handkerchief  — a “torchon radieux” — to the railings to indicate he was awake.
