The first structures of this complex burial monument were built about 6500 years ago. It is one of the earliest monuments in Europe.

It was only recently discovered - in 1976 - following an accidental fire, and is considered one of the largest man-made monuments anywhere in Europe.

The site was excavated between 1979 and 1981 and during this time ver 35,000 finds were made. Material from the site is on display at Guernsey Museum.
